The Ring by Richard Wagner (Der Ring des Nibelungen) is of epic scope lasting over 16 hours for the four operas that make up the cycle. It took Wagner over 26 years to complete the cycle depicting the struggles of gods, heroes, and several mythical creatures over the eponymous magic ring that grants domination over the entire world. The drama and intrigue begin with Das Rheingold (The Rhinegold), followed by Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) and Siegfried, as the tale spans three generations of protagonists, climaxing in the cataclysmic finale of Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods).
